Everything I Offer

I'm working toward a series of courses and newsletters by topic in a variety of different areas I'm passionate about. Emails for newsletters will be periodic and sometimes rare when I get busy, but no more than once per week. Course offerings will be available soon, and for now there are notifications you can sign up for. Feel free to subscribe to any streams that fit your interests.

Newsletters:

Updates on Software Engineering Research

If you're interested in my software engineering research and want to get notified about my papers and publishings, or read articles about software engineering topics, this newsletter is for you:

Constructivist Grounded Theory in Practice

After 20+ years as a software engineer, I went back to grad school to do PhD in Computer Science, and specialized as a constructivist grounded theory (CGT) researcher. I've really come to respect the rigor of good qualitative research, and the challenge of going from a sea of data to constructing an actual theory.

In this newsletter, I'll share reflections on my experiences of using CGT to study the cognitive experiences of developers. If you're a researcher trying to figure out how to do this, or are otherwise curious about research techniques, this newsletter is for you.

Hieroglyphs for Software Engineers

I've been gradually learning how to read Egyptian hieroglyphs this year, and it's really been quite an extraordinary experience. Instead of doing a translation and finding an accounting ledger or grocery list— it's been like, wow, I think that's the most beautiful thing I've ever read in my life.

Hieroglyphs are a beautiful, aspiring, and sacred language centered in Ma'at. As you learn to read, you really get to know what Ma'at means. In this newsletter, I will be sharing about my journey with translating temple walls in QV66, and teaching a bit on how to read hieroglyphs using software as a metaphor to explain.
